Workshop of the SenseForest Project (Biodiversa+)

From April 13 to 16, our colleagues participated in a workshop for the international project Biodiversa+ Remote Sensing for Forest Habitat Monitoring (SenseForest pilot), which aims to identify and test remote sensing methods for monitoring the condition of forest habitats and to verify their applicability across all participating countries.

The workshop, organised by colleagues from the Centre for Plant Biology and Biodiversity of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV), was attended by partners from Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Croatia, France, Austria, Spain, Sweden, and Italy. The Slovak Academy of Sciences was represented by colleagues from the Centre for Plant Biology and Biodiversity, the Institute of Landscape Ecology, and the Institute of Geography. At the workshop, they selected indicators that are easily monitored using remote sensing methods. Participants also had the opportunity to test the LiDAR vegetation-scanning process using a handheld, low-cost scanner in the Veľkolelský Island area and were subsequently presented with options for processing the resulting data.
