The Institute of Geography of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) and the Department of Physical Geography and Geoinformatics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Comenius University in Bratislava, cordially invite you to the PhD seminar, where 3rd- and 4th-year doctoral students will present the progress of their dissertation research.
The seminar will take place on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 1:00 PM in the library of the Institute of Geography, SAS. Presentations will be held in English.
Dissertation presentations:
- Dynamics of the river landscape as a natural hazard for segregated Roma settlements
- Mgr. Marián Jančovič (Institute of Geography, SAS; supervisor: Ing. A. Kidová, PhD.)
- Focus on the identification and analysis of flood risk affecting marginalized Roma communities in the context of environmental justice.
- Spatio-temporal variability of precipitation within different types of cyclonic situations as input for correction of numerical models
- Mgr. Peter Zaujec (Faculty of Natural Sciences, Comenius University; supervisor: doc. RNDr. I. Matečný, PhD.)
- Research on cyclonic synoptic situations and their impact on precipitation patterns to improve numerical weather prediction models.
- Geomorphic recovery of the Belá River after river training
- M. Phil. Akhtar Zeb Khan (Institute of Geography, SAS; supervisor: Ing. A. Kidová, PhD.)
- Analysis of geomorphological changes and river recovery processes following riverbed modifications.
- Historical land use – a synthetic approach combining remote sensing, historical cartography, and paleoecology
- Mgr. Samuel Ferencei (Faculty of Natural Sciences, Comenius University; supervisor: doc. Ing. Peter Pišút, PhD.)
- Integration of remote sensing, old maps, and paleoecological data to reconstruct long-term landscape dynamics.
The seminar offers a unique opportunity for interdisciplinary discussion, knowledge exchange, and expert feedback for young researchers in the fields of physical geography, geoecology, and geoinformatics.
We look forward to your participation!
