The Slovak Institute in Warsaw hosted a lecture on geotourism in the Tatra Mountains region

On Wednesday, January 21, 2025, our colleague Anna Chrobak-Žuffová was invited to the Slovak Institute in Warsaw, where she gave a presentation on “Geotourism in Slovakia.” It was an excellent opportunity to present the results of her long-term research on the geodiversity and geodiversity of the Carpathians, with a special focus on the region around the Tatra Mountains.

The Slovak Institute in Warsaw is part of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and is part of Slovakia’s diplomatic representation in Poland. The institute plays an important role in strengthening mutual understanding between the Slovak and Polish peoples, especially in culture, education, and science.
Our colleague was invited by the director of the institute, M. Novotný. The lecture followed up on the results of the International Visegrad Fund project “Geotourism potential of the Tatra Mountains region and possibilities for its development” (2022-2024), which was jointly implemented by UKEN staff in Krakow and the Institute of Geography of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. The aim of the project was to support the development of geotourism as an alternative form of tourism that emphasises the dissemination of scientific knowledge about inanimate nature.
The meeting in Warsaw provided an opportunity to present knowledge more broadly in the field of geodiversity, including the geodiversity of the Carpathians. Special attention was paid to the Tatra region and locations with high geotourism potential that are not yet visited by large numbers of tourists. These places offer visitors valuable experiences and can partially relieve the congestion in the most famous parts of the Tatra National Park.
We believe that cooperation with the Slovak Institute in Warsaw will continue successfully.
