The GeoKARTO 2024 scientific conference, focusing on cartography and geoinformatics, took place on 5 and 6 September 2024 at the Congress Center of SAS Academia in Stará Lesná.
The event welcomed 74 experts from 30 unique departments from Slovakia and the Czech Republic, who discussed the latest trends and challenges for Slovak and Czech cartography.
Participants discussed web cartography, spatial database creation, spatial data collection, geodata publication, geospatial analyses, and the latest trends in satellite and aerial data processing.
The conference gave participants a unique opportunity to link theoretical knowledge with practical applications and expand their professional contacts. The connection was possible mainly thanks to partners from the private sector (Expert_for_3D_Landscape, Geotronics Slovakia, Zymestic Solutions, 3gon Slovakia, and ArcGEO Information Systems), but also thanks to representatives of the public sector, e.g., the Bratislava Self-Governing Region, the Košice Self-Governing Region, the Municipality of Bratislava, representatives of the ministries of interior, defence, and agriculture, the Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre Authority of the Slovak Republic, and the Geodetic and Cartographic Institute Bratislava.
The event was organised by long-standing cooperating organisations – the Institute of Geography SAS and the Cartographic Society of the Slovak Republic. This cooperation contributed to the smooth running of the event and, we believe, to its high professional standard.
