On November 11, 2025, as part of Science and Technology Week 2025, a Doors Open Day was held for students in geography programs. Students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Comenius University in Bratislava attended this event in dozens.
Our researchers and doctoral students presented the scientific topics being addressed at our institute, the technology and equipment used for research, and also provided an overview of doctoral studies. In addition to providing information about the latest methods and tools and popularising geography, our goal was to awaken young geographers’ interest in deeper scientific knowledge in this field. In addition to students, the event was also attended by Mária Babinská, editor of Radio Regina Západ.
Geography deals with the study of the Earth, its surface, natural features, climate, population, as well as social and economic phenomena. Since it is Week of Science and Technology, Mária Babinská attended the open day at the Institute of Geography of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Lukáš Michaleje and Anna Borsíková spoke to second-year students masters study of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Comenius University.
The event took place in several time blocks, as groups of students and their teachers visited the institute over a gradual period. Given the high turnout and the rich discussion that followed the presentation of our institute, we consider the event a success. We believe that we have successfully familiarised students with the opportunities our institute offers, thereby attracting promising young scientists to our workplace.
We would like to thank the following for their cooperation:
- Department of Regional Geography and Regional Development (lecturer: Angelika Švecová)
- Department of Physical Geography and Geoinformatics (lecturers: Juraj Procházka, Miroslav Kožuch, Adam Šupčík)
